Daily work, and environmental pollution…. make our eyes weaker and weaker. The eyes are a very vulnerable part, especially for those who often have to work with computers. Therefore, the eyes need to be exercised to be healthy and flexible like our whole body. To help your eyes relax and improve your eyesight after studying and working hard, remember these 10 simple exercises right away.

  1. Blink continuously for 2 minutes

Normally, you will blink once every 4-6 seconds, when focusing on a computer screen this time is 12 to 15 seconds, causing eye fatigue and dry eyes. Blinking continuously for about 2 minutes will help increase blood circulation to the eyes, reducing eye fatigue and dry eyes.

  1. Glance horizontally

Keep your head still, and slowly move your eyes to the right, then to the left. Repeat this movement 10 times, doing 2 to 3 cycles a day will reduce eye fatigue and help the eyes become more flexible.

  1. Close your eyes and relax for a few minutes

Stretch your shoulders, stretch your body, then slowly relax and close your eyes tightly for 1-2 minutes. This movement not only improves blood circulation to the eyes and relieves stress.

  1. Close your eyes while moving your eyeballs vertically

Keeping your head still, with your eyes closed, slowly move your eyeballs up and down 10 times. Practicing 3 to 4 cycles a day will help keep your eyes healthy.

  1. Turn your head but keep looking straight ahead

Look fixed to a point, and slowly turn your head clockwise and counterclockwise. Repeat each way 10 times.

  1. Lightly press the temples

Using your index or middle finger, gently press between your temples, holding for 4 to 5 seconds. Repeat this movement 5 times to help the circulation of the eye to circulate better.

  1. Look close then look far

Focus on one point for a few seconds. Then, zoom out, looking at a distant point for a few seconds. Repeat the movement 5 to 7 times a day.

  1. Write letters with your eyes

Hold your head still, look at the blank space in front of you, and use your eyes to write letters or different shapes depending on your preferences. Try to write as big as possible. This movement is quite difficult to do at first, but be persistent because this is a very good exercise for the eyes.

  1. Roll your eyes

Close your eyes, keep your head still, and slowly rotate your eyeballs clockwise, then counterclockwise 10 times each.

  1. Looking at a light-colored object

Constantly staring at the screen makes your eyes hurt. Look at a distant object that is light yellow or light blue so that the eyes do not have to regulate. This both relaxes the eyes and effectively relieves psychological stress.

Rubbing our eyes with our hands is a normal reaction when there is dirt on our eyes or when our eyes are itchy and tired. However, this will have many effects on eye health. Therefore, learn the harmful effects of rubbing your eyes and how to overcome them.

  1. Why do we often rub our eyes?

There are many reasons why we often rub our eyes with our hands  to solve problems immediately for the couple eyes such as eyes are swollen, itchy, watery, entangled in foreign objects, and irritated due to various causes

At the same time, working and looking at the computer screen constantly, exposure to the phone for too long without a break will make the eyes more tired.

In addition, if we wear contact lenses for too long compared to the recommended time, rubbing our eyes causes eye pain, creating rubbings that lead to corneal damage such as corneal ulcers.

  1. The harm of rubbing eyes

Rubbing our eyes can cause serious immediate or long-term damage to our eyes that we might not expect. However, here are some of the most common dangers of rubbing your eyes:

  • Corneal scratch

In the case of dust, eyelashes, or foreign objects located on the surface of the eye, the rubbing action will cause the cornea to be scratched by the rubbing between the foreign bodies and the cornea of the eye. This condition causes pain, discomfort, watery eyes, red eyes, sensitive eyes to light, and stinging eyes. Instead of rubbing your eyes with your hands, use clean water or eyewash to wash away dirt

  • Eye infection and more itching

Hand-rubbing eyes contain a lot of bacteria, rubbing your eyes is a way to bring bacteria into the eyes directly. Along with the act of rubbing your eyes, which makes your eyes scratched, there is an opportunity for bacteria to attack the eyes more easily. Moreover, rubbing your eyes causes your body to release histamine, which causes itching and makes your eyes even itchier.

  • Worsening Myopia

Among the types of myopia, there is a type called degenerative myopia. This is severe myopia associated with degeneration of the posterior half of the eyeball. Rubbing your eyes can make myopia in this form more severe.

In addition to the harmful effects of rubbing the eyes above, rubbing the eyes a lot can also cause other diseases such as eye infections, and conjunctivitis …

  1. How to fix eye conditions without rubbing your eyes

To minimize the damage to the eyes, let's fix it in another way instead of rubbing our eyes like:

  • For larger foreign bodies in the eye, it is necessary to visit an ophthalmologist for timely and effective treatment.
  • In case of itchy eyes due to conjunctivitis, blepharitis, or overwork of the eyes, we need to use eye drops for installation and regular cleaning. In particular, inflammatory cases need to be treated effectively by a specialist to limit and stop the symptoms of itchy eyes.
  • Eye Wash is also a way to easily wash and remove dust or other agents from your eyes.
  • More important is to let the eyes rest, work properly, and avoid overexertion that causes fatigue, and frequent itchy eyes.

The sweltering summer heat and dust and environmental pollution make us always pay more attention to facial skin care. However, the sun is not only a dangerous "enemy" for our skin but also for our eyes. So, this summer, we need to carefully protect and care for our eyes as well as our skin.

To protect your "window to the soul" and those around you, please "pocket" these eye care tips this summer!

  • Protect your eyes from the sun

Like the skin, the eyes are sensitive and vulnerable parts that need to be protected from the sun. Because harmful UV rays from sunlight accelerate the aging of your eyes when exposed to direct sunlight. Therefore, proper eye protection measures are necessary such as: wearing a wide-brimmed hat and wearing UV-blocking sunglasses. At the same time, we should avoid going out in the hot sun from 10 am to 3 pm.

  • Get enough sleep, drink plenty of water

Summer is hot, making us feel uncomfortable and tired, have difficulty in eating and sleeping. If you find it difficult to sleep, then look around your bedroom: If your bedroom is clean, well-ventilated, not too messy, and at a cool temperature, you will find it easier to fall asleep. Saying "no" to staying up late, getting enough sleep, getting up early, and looking far away when the sun is not bright will keep your eyes healthy, sharp, and mentally stimulated.

  • Eating foods that are good for your eyes:

Eyes that have to work continuously in hot weather often get tired and dry. According to research by scientists at the NHS (National Health Service - Health Service of the UK government) foods such as: Fish, green vegetables, avocado, eggs, milk, cheese, carrots, papaya, oranges, lemons ... provide vitamin A, vitamin C, DHA, help the eyes not dry, anti-aging and improve vision. Beans and green vegetables are rich in bioflavonoids and antioxidants that help protect the retina, preventing some eye diseases.

  • Do not rub your eyes often:

The habit of rubbing your eyes when they itch due to dust flying into your eyes or irritation, continuous work on computer and phone screens will lead to corneal scratches, which can damage vision, increase myopia, eye redness, and will potentially cause dangerous diseases for the eyes over time. Therefore, to protect your eyes, you should limit the constant rubbing of your eyes.
